Not all gTLDs are available at NiceNIC.NET. When do you intend to register these, please?
Please contact our support staff and let them know which TLDs you'd like to see released if your gTLD is not on the list for the future launch. We'll see what we can do. Even though some domain extensions are not included in our TLD list, we cooperate with many of the top domain Registries and operators worldwide and frequently add new gTLDs.
What is 'pre-order' and do you support it?
Pre-ordering, which is essentially a priority pre-registration, enables you to reserve your desired domain name in a certain namespace before the new TLD opens up to the general public for registration. When they become available, we'll let you know which new domain extensions we frequently support pre-orders for. In our Domain News what is a TLD, you can find out more about pre-registering a gTLD.
Do pre-order domains with new gTLDs cost anything?
Yes, the Registry typically charges an extra price for domain pre-orders. This could vary between TLDs and registries as well. Pre-order costs also fluctuate over time; they are cheaper the closer you are to the TLD launch date. However, keep in mind that if you wait for the charge to decrease, someone else might grab the domain name before you do. Find out more about the steps involved in releasing new gTLDs.
Why are some TLDs restricted or closed in some other way?
There are closed TLDs because they are needed for testing, documentation, or limited use. To facilitate simple website testing without misunderstanding, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) reserved the DNS labels.invalid,.example,.localhost, and.test. The creation of restricted TLDs had a very clear goal in mind. The restricted top level domains (rTLDs).gov and.mil, which are only to be used for government and military purposes, are well-known to American users. Similar to that, only accredited universities or post-secondary institutions with US locations are permitted to use the.edu extension.
