People and companies registered 41 premium .me domain names through registrars in the first half of this year, the .me registry reported today. The domains grossed EURO 313,000 wholesale (excluding the registrar markup).
The unit volume is ahead of last year's pace, and the revenue is slightly below. For all of 2021, the .me registry sold 72 premium domains for total revenue of EURO 694,500.
Two character domains accounted for about three-quarters of the sales. The average wholesale price for these domains was EURO 16,250. Meta Platforms (Facebook) bought one of these: hz.me. The domain isn't in use yet, and it's unclear why Meta Platforms registered it.
Beyond Meat registered beyond.me. It forwards this domain to a page on its website titled "Beyond Me," which talks about the company's impact on the environment and people.
The top registrars were GoDaddy (14 domains), NameCheap (10 domains), and Key-Systems (6 domains). GoDaddy partnered to bring Montenegro's country code domain to market.
